Plant bulbs in your garden if you want flowers through spring and summer. Bulbs are easy to grow and hearty, and they keep growing in years to come. Various bulbs do not all bloom at the same time, and if you employ this knowledge wisely, your garden can provide freshly blooming flowers for half the year.
When fall arrives, it’s time to plant your autumn vegetables. Why not plant lettuce and kale inside a hollowed-out pumpkin? Simply carve open the top of a pumpkin so you can remove the innards, and then spray inside and out with something like Wilt-Pruf to prevent pumpkin rotting. Once this is done, you are ready to plant!
Coffee Grounds
Balance your alkaline soil with the acid found in used coffee grounds. Coffee grounds are an inexpensive way to increase the acid level in your soil. With it, you will find that your greens and vegetables will be more vibrant and tasty!
It’s easy to just jump in and start gardening without thought, but it’s important to plan your garden first. Use this to remind you where certain things were planted, later when they start sprouting. This is important, because different plants require different care.
Your vegetable plants need about two or three inches of mulch placed around them. Mulching helps keep moisture in the soil. It also prevents weed growth. You will save time by not pulling weeds.
Learn the appropriate time to pick different vegetables. Each veggie has its own prime time for harvesting. For example, baby peas and zucchini taste best when they are picked young. Tomatoes, though, are tastiest when they have been allowed to ripen on the vine as long as possible. You should know the proper time to pick vegetables.
Vegetables tend to soften during the hottest part of the day, which means they are easily damaged, even when handled with care. For vegetables growing on vines, cut them carefully rather than twisting them off to avoid damage to the plant.
You can create the look and feel of an English garden by mixing different plants of varying heights throughout your flower bed. If you use a combination of plants that grow to the same height, your garden bed will be uniform and dull looking.
Horticulture can be hard on your knees. It’s not a good idea to spend much time standing while you are bent over at the waist. Concentrate on kneeling. This will still make it easy to reach plants as well as minimize back stress. Get knee pads or a small mat you can use to kneel on if the ground is too hard.
When helping organic plants flourish inside, it is vital to keep in mind how much light is reaching them. Ideally, these plants should be kept in a room that offers natural light from a window or glass door. If the type of plant does not help, you can always use lights to help.
As your seeds sprout, they require less warmth than before. Move your plants away from the heat as they grow. Also take any plastic films off of your containers, so you can keep the warmth and humidity out. Keep an eye on your seeds in order to know when you should do this.
You now know what organic gardening is about, and exactly how to achieve excellent results. There is much to do and only a few particular ways to do it best, at the right time and under the most suitable conditions. If you use what you’ve learned and keep on learning, you can come up with your own methods of growing a lovely organic garden.
