If you lack experience as a gardener, it is perfectly natural to be somewhat intimidated by the thought of all that work. How can you begin to learn about organic gardening? They should read this article, obviously!
Use climbers for covering fences and walls. Plants that climb are extraordinarily versatile, and can help hide an unsightly wall or fence, usually within one season. You can also train climbers to cover arbors and other things that you want covered, and they will even grow right through trees and shrubs. Some require ties attaching them to supports, but others will attach themselves to any surface nearby. There are many varieties you can choose from. Honeysuckle, climbing roses and jasmine are among the best.
Plants need a sufficient amount of CO2 for proper maximum growth. A high level of CO2 provides an optimum environment for growth. The best method to obtain a high amount is to get access to a greenhouse. It’s best to keep CO2 levels high for the best growth of your plants.
Stink Bugs
When horticulture, be watchful of stink bugs, particularly in the fall. These destructive pests enjoy many kinds of fruit, as well as beans, peppers and tomatoes. Stink bugs may get out of hand and do significant damage in your garden. It is important to take steps to eliminate them from that area.
If you have many low-growing plants in your garden, get yourself a pair of horticulture knee pads. You will end up spending a good deal of time on your knees and this can cause a lot of pain by the end of the day. Knee pads offer your knees the extra cushioning they need to stay comfortable during extended periods in the garden.
If you want an organic way to weed your garden, try “boiling” them. Boiling water is a very safe alternative to other potent herbicides. Literally pour the water on the weeds, avoiding any wanted plants near them, and watch the weeds die over time. The weeds’ roots will be damaged by the boiling water; normally, this prevents them from continuing to grow.
Do you want fresh mint leaves without having to worry about them growing too quickly? Control their expansion by confining them to a large pot. Then, you can plant the container into the ground. However, the container walls will keep the roots held, and prevent the plant from consuming too much of your garden space.
A good green garden should start from seeds and not plants. Starting with your own seeds is more environmentally friendly than buying plants from a nursery. Most nurseries use a lot of plastic that is not recycled. If you want to buy plants, find a nurseries that uses organic methods or grow your plants from seeds.
Broad-spectrum pesticides are really not the optimal choice for pest control in your garden. These pesticides can also kill useful insects that eat your pests. Good bugs are often more sensitive to pesticides than their bad counterparts, so if the population of good bugs goes down, the pest problem can grow. This can result in your using more pesticides to eradicate the problem.
Plan your garden, and plant with fall colors in mind. However, that does not have to be the case! The foliage in the fall probably exudes more color than any other season. Fall hues of orange, yellow and red can be seen falling from maple trees, and dogwoods and beech trees offer comparable spectacles. Consider hydrangea, barberry and cotoneaster when considering purchasing a shrub.
Choose a specific plant to become your garden’s focal point. In any great garden design, a good focal point captures the eye. Focal points in gardens are normally a plant specimen that no one else in the neighborhood has in their landscape.
Consider planting strawberries, especially ones that are everbearing, for your garden if you have small children. Children love to pick their own fruit right out of the garden, and will be more willing to help with the process if they get something out of it.
To be as efficient as possible in the garden, always have your tools handy. You could do this by using a big bucket, or just wear old pants that have some deep pockets. Keep common tools such as your gloves or your pruning shears within reach so that you can quickly and easily maintain your garden whenever you need to.
Now you should be able to see why organic horticulture can be such an enjoyable activity to participate in. It provides so much opportunity for relaxation in a soothing environment and so much reward when the garden flourishes. These tips will help you get your organic garden started.
