Stinkbugs can be a nuisance in the garden. These bugs are known to be proliferate in the cooler fall months. Fruits, peppers and tomatoes are among the foods they love to eat. If not taken care of, these pests can damage the garden, so take steps to cut down their population.
Before planting seeds, soak them overnight. Place them in a cupboard or other place where they won’t be exposed to light. Place some seeds into a small container, then fill it with water until it is almost to the top. This hydrates your seeds and jump-starts their growth. This way, the seeds will have a much better shot at survival once they are planted.
Mint Leaves
Are you one of the millions who loves some fresh mint leaves, yet you absolutely hate the way they tend to take over any garden they are planted within? Contain their growth with a garden container or large pot instead. The container will keep the roots from spreading throughout you garden, and prevent the mint leaves from sprouting in other areas.
Fertilizing your garden is essential. One type of fertilizer that really helps plants grow is manure, but be sure to utilize a type that is commercially composted to reduce the chances of pathogens. It is important that you use some sort of fertilizer, although it doesn’t really matter which variety you choose.
Choose one stand-out plant to be a focal point. In any good garden design, a focal point will grab the eye and hold it there. Usually this is a big plant that is somewhat different from the other plants in the garden.
Wisely water your garden. A soaker hose can save valuable time by watering all of your plants simultaneously, removing the need for hauling a watering can or hose around to each plant. Use low water pressure for your hose so that you do not cause harm to the tender members of your garden. Let the soaker hose do its thing for a couple hours, and your plants are watered.
If you pick vegetables around high noon when it is very hot, you are likely to damage them. For vegetables growing on vines, cut them carefully rather than twisting them off to avoid damage to the plant.
A mixture of aspirin and water can protect your plants from common diseases. An aspirin and a half, dissolved in about two gallons of fresh water, is great for your plants. Next, coat the plant with the aspirin mixture by spraying it on the leaves. Spray them once about every three weeks.
The ambient temperate of a room with live plants should be kept between sixty-five and seventy-five degrees throughout the day. Plants need to be in an environment that is neither too warm nor too cool for them to grow. These temperatures may not be comfortable for you, however. As an alternative to keeping your entire home that warm, consider getting heat lamps for your organic plants.
When planting seeds, it is wise to take your time. First, add moisture to the soil where you will be planting. Your seeds should be spaced out evenly so they aren’t overcrowded. This will ensure that they can grow. Typically, seeds should be planted at a depth that is equal to three times their size. Make sure you are not burying the seeds that need light to grow.
Have your tools for gardening nearby in order to maximize your efficiency with horticulture. You can do this by using a bucket, or you can wear rugged pants or a gardening apron that has several pockets. You will be much more productive if you can quickly get to your spade, pruning shears, trowel and watering can.
Plastic bags can be kept on hand and reused to slip over your dirty horticulture shoes. This helps you stay in the zone so that you can continue gardening when you have completed your tasks in the house.
Don’t let your organic gardening tasks stack up for very long. If you’re too busy to do all those little things each day, there are some small steps you can take to not have all that work build up on you. Grab a handful of weeds, throw down some mulch, or toss some water on it anytime you walk by.
With the above information in hand, you now know a little bit about what is needed to succeed as an organic gardener. There is much to do and only a few particular ways to do it best, at the right time and under the most suitable conditions. If you remember these tips, you can make the most of organic gardening methods.
